Get Started

Apply today! Our staff will work with you to chart your course to become a certified teacher!. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher  from an accredited institution in any major, possess a 2.95 GPA or higher, provide proof of valid CPR and first aid certification, pass a criminal background check and

submit a resume. 

Step 2

Begin Coursework

In total, candidates are provided up to 445 hours of comprehensive curriculum in the following areas:  

  • Child development or child psychology

  • Family and community relationships

  • Diverse learners

  • Instructional strategies

  • Teaching methods

Additionally, in response to new MDE requirements, we also offer a course in Restorative Practices.

During your first year, the residency year, you will gain significant experience as a certified classroom teacher. However, you

won't be alone!

 

Collaborating Teachers (CT’s), Instructional Coaches, Directors of Instruction and Residency Directors work side by side with all Residents by providing targeted, individualized, on-going training, mentoring and in-classroom support.

Full Certification

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, including three years of teaching with successful evaluations, your Interim Certification will convert to a Michigan Standard Certificate !
