Stakeholder Involvement
#TEACH was developed in collaboration with state and district partners to address state and regional teacher shortages. The program serves individuals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and are completing an expedited, alternative route to certification while employed as teachers under an Interim Teaching Certificate. Many candidates are hired as the teacher of record during their preparation.
Instructional coaches and school‑based mentors support and monitor candidates throughout a state‑required preparation pathway, which ranges from one to three years depending on the state. Upon completion, candidates may apply for an initial teaching license or add‑on endorsement in over 70 certification areas, spanning elementary, secondary, and K–12 grade bands.
#TEACH regularly engages candidates, completers, employers, and field experts through surveys and feedback mechanisms, using stakeholder input to guide continuous improvement.
Partnerships and Ongoing Collaboration
#TEACH maintains strong partnerships with school districts and education stakeholders across multiple states, including:
- Formal district agreements to place candidates in high‑need and shortage areas
- Diverse clinical placements in urban, rural, and high‑poverty districts
- A Stakeholder Advisory Board composed of district leaders, educators, and policymakers
- Regular principal and teacher feedback through surveys and focus groups
To further strengthen collaboration, #TEACH established an Employer Engagement Division focused on building strategic, long‑term partnerships with school districts and employers.
Measure 3: Candidate Competency at Program Completion
Candidate Assessment of Competency
Michigan’s certification pathway is a three‑year program, and #TEACH graduated its first completers in 2022. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) surveyed educators who earned their initial Standard Teaching Certificate between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. Results are reported alongside statewide benchmarks.

Measure 4: Ability of Completers to be Hired in Education Positions for Which They Have Been Prepared
Candidate Assessment of Employment Readiness
As an alternative route residency program, #TEACH prepares individuals with prior experience as substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, or certified educators seeking additional endorsements, as well as career changers entering the profession. Many candidates assume classroom responsibilities immediately as the teacher of record.
Because candidates are employed during preparation, #TEACH is able to report that nearly all candidates receive job offers prior to beginning the program, demonstrating strong employment readiness.
#TEACH is a member in good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. #TEACH is working toward accreditation of its educator preparation programs under the AAQEP standards with an anticipated quality assurance review in Spring 2027.
#TEACH has earned national accreditation by demonstrating excellence in the areas of content and pedagogy, clinical partnerships and practice, candidate recruitment, progression, and support, program impact, and quality assurance and continuous improvement from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
